Welcome again to another one of Jamie662's Game Reviews, now as you guys must know by now I love a good shooter game but there is a very thin between a good shooter and a bad shooter that all determines on allot of things such as graphics, game play, story, glitches etc. But one game I had been dying to play since I traded in all my PS2 games to pick up Mass Effect and Rainbow Six Vegas has been Rainbow Six, after reading so many great and positive reviews and finding out many called this game of the year in 2006 tied with Gears Of War and in many other cases even above it. Well it was finally my time to play it and witness this game with my own eyes and I must say right off the top it lived up to my expectations.

First I'm going to bring something up about Shooter genre games, you see many games such as GOW, COD4 are great shooter variations but one thing about them is the fact that even on a harder skill level the games are fairly easy and that really takes away from the challenge and the overall pleasure to play the game. Rainbow Six not only has one of the most challenging AI I have ever played against but the overall game itself is very difficult no matter what skill level you choose to compete in. The bad guys flank, cover and frag you like no other game I have seen and in some cases I found the AI in RSV to be better then COD4 not only because of all the abilities it had, but the fact the AI had the same abilities as COD4 and also has the AI being much more difficult to take down and outsmart whereas in COD4 a few shots and they would be out with ease. Not only is the AI challenging but the level design along with placement of enemies is just awesome and I'm not shamed to say I got killed ALLOT in this game, and basically if you don't strategize against your enemy your fate is signed, sealed and delivered with one fatal blow to the head.

Now onto presentation, all the menus were done to perfection and really captured the Vegas attitude. Even the sound within the game itself, being able to hear terrorist’s plans through doors and the communication between your own squad mates were again done very well and gave you that feeling of being in a modern war if it was to go down. Now although you graphic obsesses out there won't be ready to blow your wad at the graphics in this game they are still very good, not up to the standards of many of the top games I have played but they are good enough to warrant some credit when it comes to frame rates. Hardly ever will your game lag or slow down in-between in huge fire fights, smoke covered battlefields and dark corridors not once did the game once lag for me on this level and I was impressed, when you have smoke grenades and flash bangs going off everywhere around you and at least 20 or 30 enemies attacking blowing the place apart the game keeps going.

Before I get onto the game play and story there were problems with this game, many times when you did order your squad to cover in a certain area they will either not follow it or go in entirely different direction from where you placed it, the idea was great but the overall presentation of the system wasn't done that well. Another thing that can be annoying is the fact you will see terrorists and your own teammates through walls and different parts of cover this doesn't mean you can shoot them, but the fact the models can have an arm or a leg going through pieces of the actual game doesn't look to good on a game that otherwise has allot of great things going for it. Now onto my main gripe with the game, now I was nearing the end of the campaign mode and I swear I went wandering through about 5 or 6 checkpoints without encountering any enemies at all. Now for those who have played the game you know this is impossible, usually you get enemies in almost every room and there were none to be seen. I paused and checked an online guide to see if this was right and right there it was explaining to me how to kill enemies in these 6 checkpoint areas....but my game had nobody, nothing and nudda anywhere. I don't know if this my game having a glitch or something was wrong with this particular disc but it took away 6 checkpoints without any enemies and when I did end the game I was disappointed I missed that much of the game play.

At the start of the game this looks like your typical shooter, not much in the way of an in-depth story and really just an excuse to kill terrorists and it didn't look too much different then any other shooter in terms of areas of game play. But once you hit Las Vegas the game just astounds you at how realistically the lights and signs in Las Vegas look from what I have seen and it gives you the presence that you're actually there and is a nice change from your usual desert war type areas. The story itself doesn't really pick up until the second half of the game and the first half basically is very hard to follow let alone understand, but nearing the end you are enthralled in the story and the twist ending at the end was done perfectly and really has me looking forward to Vegas 2 which is release din March. Now the story and events are shown and presented to you differently in this game then the usual cut scenes, instead the action doesn't stop (Incase of load screens) since the information is shown to you in a mini video in the top left hand corner of your screen. This is a nice change from the usual game that will stop you from playing to watch a cut scene and you always wish you could be in control of your character instead of having to watch it, this game allows you to keep you in the fight at all times and this was a great feature.

All in all Rainbow Six Vegas has everything you could want from a shooter like i said at the beginning, you have a tough and challenging game experience, great game play and cover system, good graphics and a decent story that has an awesome twist. This was at least a 15 hour gaming adventure and for the price of $50 it was totally worth it. This is a must have for the 360 and it should be much cheaper then other games on the system nowadays, so I urge you to check it out and get filled in for when the sequel is released in a few months time.

Story : 8.4
Presentation : 8.8
Sound : 8.8
Game Play : 9.0
Lasting Appeal : 8.9

Overall : 43.9/50

I love this game. My only problem with it is, that you have to be on Xbox Live to unlock extra guns and the like.

Yeah that was annoying, but I read in the sequel you can unlock them in normal single player campaign which would be great.
