Although I am mostly a fan of shooters, I do occasionally like the odd sports game. Now I'm not the biggest fan of soccer in general but from previous experiences I know that doesn't hinder the fun and enjoyment that a soccer game brings and it is much more fun to play then to watch. Being from Australia I don't know many of the soccer player name, teams and so forth in the game but when it comes to actually playing the game as I said it doesn't take much away from the game play and enjoyment at hand.
First off I want to go back to what is and still is my favourite soccer game I have ever played it is called This Is Football 2 on PS2, it cost me $40n platinum and it was a great game. The number of tournaments to win, different skills on the field and the array of creativity when creating your own unique teams was great, but it also had more features then Fifa 07 which to me is astounding in TIF you could dive in order to get a free, give more strength to your tackles and perform evading maneuvers much more easier then in 07. Now for those wondering why I have 07 instead of 08, well when I first brought my 360 07 was on sale chap and I picked it up not knowing that 08 was out less then a month later. But anyway I have played EA Sports game before and I know they don't change much in the games each year so I have no need or desire to buy 08. But to those that do I have played 07 and the demo of 08, from the 08 demo there seemed to be hardly any difference in the game graphics wise and the game play was much more difficult, now if you are a soccer fan or a fan of the series you will enjoy 08 as much as 07 but if you expect something new don't bother buying 08 for that price look for 07 and buy that for half the price and you will get the same experience.
When you're actually playing a game in 07 you won't see much in the terms of graphics, just looks like every other soccer game on the market that has been done before. But hen you get the small cut scenes within the game and see the player sup close they do look rather good, although when you finally realize nearly all players have the same basic face model it takes away from most of the players apart from a few that stand out on the field such as Ronaldinho. There are several gripes about the on field play that can get on your nerves the slow recognition of your controls is a main one as it can take awhile for it to respond to you and sometimes not at all, also heading the ball is almost a known option for goal as it is very difficult to get power and placement correct and after going through 2 seasons I only scored one goal with this method. The rest of the game play is solid nothing exciting and the right analog trick stick doesn't really need to be used at all to dominate your opponents which would have been good if it actually helped you rather then hinder you as I find it does.
One thing I really like about EA Sports game nowadays is the training they allow you to do on the menus and loading screens, which I have always believed is a good idea which in some cases makes you forget about loading times being too long since you can play while you wait. The game loads mightily fast and you can get about 2 actual shots in before the game is ready to play while loading a game up, one bad thing about loading times is within a game when your opponents make a substitute...which will happen at least 1 to 3 times in each game, since you cannot skip the information of the substitutes it takes about 10-30 of your game that is just you staring at a screen waiting for the game to restart, at first this doesn't seem much in the way of annoyance but after this happens each game and the fact the other team will still substitute with only 5 seconds remaining in injury time in the second half while down 8-0, it can get on your nerves.
The soundtrack on this game is great, it gives you allot of great vibes with the different varieties of music from around the world. This is a strong point in the game to hear such great tunes from world wide while on the menus. I played 2 years in Manager Mode, since I couldn't find just a basic season mode (Let me know if there is) Manager Mode goes for 5 years max and it has some nice features, but just the basic Manager mode from any other game we have seen but doesn't mean it isn't fun to play. All in all I got bored with it after about 2 seasons out of the 5, so the game doesn’t last that long on you before you get sick of the same stuff over and over.
Overall 07 is a decent soccer experience but I have played better, if you love the game of soccer then get this game. But if you want to buy 08 I recommend you save your cash and buy 07 instead, not much difference between games from what I have seen so get 07 and keep the rest of you cash and go buy something nice for Christmas.
